Established in 2015 Prop Box Theatre Company is a small-scale theatre company, which aims to engage, inspire and educate children and young people through the medium of drama, theatre and performance. Providing weekly Drama classes, workshops in schools and other opportunities for enthusiastic young artists to develop their performance skills in a supportive, creative and friendly environment.

Creative Director

Prior to graduating Bretton Hall College, University of Leeds in 2003 with a BA (Hons) Theatre Acting Degree, creative director of Prop Box Theatre Company, Suzanne James had gained a wide range of performance experience from a young age.

As an active member of The Wirral Youth Theatre in her teenage years she went on to participate in a Physical Theatre Programme at Hope Street Ltd following the completion of her A ‘Levels in 1999.  Here she trained and worked with a variety of professional local, national and international theatre companies/ directors; whilst also performing in a variety productions at the Unity Theatre, Liverpool. 

Following this, and her Degree she worked professionally as an actor, and was cast in a range of productions including a regional tour of ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ by William Shakespeare and national tours of several pantomimes and issue based (Theatre in Education) performances.  She also began teaching and leading Drama workshops in schools, theatres, youth clubs and other venues including outreach work and Drama in prisons.

In 2004, Suzanne completed a PGCE in Performing Arts Education at Liverpool Hope University, qualifying her to teach Drama and Performing Arts at secondary level.  She gained Qualified Teacher Status and has taught across the key stages at Upton Hall School, FCJ as a teacher of Drama and Performing Arts since 2005. As part of her continued professional development Suzanne has worked towards an MA in Performing Arts Education at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts (LIPA).  She has developed links with local Primary schools through enrichment and a primary liaison Drama workshop.  She is a trained and experienced Teacher and Assessment Associate (Examiner) for GCSE and A’Level Drama courses and has completed training as a LAMDA Associate in order to enter candidates for the London Academy of Dramatic Arts speech and Drama examinations.

In 2015, Suzanne decided to turn a long-term dream and vision in to reality and has opened Prop Box Theatre Company alongside her continued teaching role in school. She aims to offer and provide fun, affordable drama classes and theatre experiences. Which she hopes will inspire and encourage children and young people of all ages and abilities who share a passion or interest in Drama and Theatre, to make new friends, develop their confidence, communication and creativity and possibly pave their way for a future career in the Arts.
